Keeping the Blues Alive Awards, Memphis, Tennessee, February 3, 2017

January 23, 2017

For Immediate Release: Vancouver, British Columbia

Suzanne Swanson, a consummate and talented professional will be recognized by The Blues Foundation, Memphis, Tennessee, as the only Canadian, as well as the first female photographer to receive this prestigious award. Her images and writings have graced albums, movie posters, and promotional materials to accompany articles about blues and other genres of music.

Her lifetime contribution to music started at the age of four, with her early background of classical, jazz and gospel. This inspiration continues to guide her since her musical journey began. Her dynamic career has spanned a period of over 47 years, including being an accredited music photographer for MCA Records. As a musician, member of the industry, photographer, writer, filmmaker, and producer, she has seen the industry from all sides, as she continues to write, attend, and reviews shows throughout the world. This is not your normal photographer or music reviewer! She is published in all the formats that matter!

With a simple philosophy to set the bar high, and to do what she loves, with people who feel the same way, Swanson’s strength has been her relaxed style, while her focus has been through the lens of the blues, in all its varied styles and voices.

She has had the opportunity to meet and interview some of the most exceptional in the business. These are the legends of the soundtracks of our lives. Moreover, she has done this with care. Her archives come loaded with the style and acumen of the performers she has not only met, but sustained long-lasting friendships. They include Andy Powell (Wishbone Ash), J.J. Cale, Kim Simmonds (Savoy Brown), Bobby Rush, Jack Lavin (Powder Blues) Jerry Adolphe (Chilliwack), Terry Townson (Delbert McClinton, Colin James), Buddy Guy, Roger Earl (Foghat),Sonny Rhodes, James Cotton, Tommy Castro, Brian Auger, Tab Benoit, Tinsley Ellis, Otis Clay, David Honeyboy Edwards, Leo Lyons and Ric Lee (Ten Years After) , Sugar Blue (Rolling Stones), Alastair Greene (Alan Parsons Group), to name but a few. Her goal has always been to achieve a balance between the music that communicates, and, the artfulness that attracts attention. All this is with a simple mandate - a commitment to deliver the best photos or script to an audience of music lovers. When we hear the blues, we look, we learn, we explore and we experience.

Nominated by her colleagues and friends from The Fraser Valley Blues Society in Abbotsford, British Columbia, look for Suzanne’s prolific writings and photographs, wherever blues is found;  from side stage with her notepad to blues magazines around the world.

As a member of American Federation of Musicians #145, she has seen the industry from both sides of the lens, and, she has heard it all. As an esteemed judge, for the past number of years, at the International Blues Challenge Awards in Memphis, Tenn., the Washington Blues Society, and Canadian blues societies, Suzanne knows more about the industry and its people, than most folks have forgotten. This love and a passion for the lyrics and the melodies is part of her psyche.

Swanson is one honest, talented and compassionate woman, who lends a helping hand when needed to make performers, perform better.  She delivers innovative photographs from up close and personal. This is a lady who has unquestionable credentials. It is all kismet and karma when she is present, where anything can happen to spark past and future occurrences with any number of people that have gathered for a show.

Swanson has an inner talent that relaxes artists, so that her interviews or photo sessions are more insightful and honest for the reader. Suzanne continues to pay tribute to our music history and those who have revered her in a sustainable manner, by continuing to capture interviews and video. She looks forward to rekindling old and new friendships in Memphis. For more information:  please contact: 604-250-9396.
